The artist Ernie Washee is from the Navajo Nation from Mariano Lake, New Mexico. He was born in the "Start of the Red Streak People" clan. He began work for his grandfather, who ran a trading post at Church Rock New Mexico. When it came time to producing jewelry, Ernie's grandfather expected skillful workmanship. Ernie's creative style of working in silver and semi-precious stones comes from working in traditional design by traditional methods.
